Sony’s smartphones are pretty great, it
has to be said. Why do I like them?
Because they don’t simply copy what
everyone else in the Android world does.
Sony Xperia range has some truly unique
features, and they make the phones very
appealing. I love PS4 Remote Play, and I
also think the hardware design beats a
lot of other company’s devices.
One feature that I really like though is
one that you don’t see on other high-end
phones, namely the ability of its phones
to enjoy up to 30 minutes underwater.
But according to the company’s support
page the firm doesn’t actually think it’s a
great idea to actually put your phone
underwater.
In fact, Sony is pretty explicit about
using your phone underwater, on the
site it says “Remember not to use the
device underwater. If you accidentally
get the device wet with non-fresh water,
wash the device with tap water.” Given
many will buy the phone because of its
waterproofing, this could be a problem
for Sony.
The Xperia Z5 is IP68 rated. Sony breaks
this down on its support page, but what
it means in English is that your phone is
protected against dust getting inside the
handset. It is also tested underwater for
30 minutes in a laboratory. Sony has
always advised against using your phone
in the sea, as salt water isn’t part of the
testing process.
