Here's Why Angry Worshippers Pelted Saraki with Stones at Ilorin Prayer Ground

Senate president Bukola Saraki was on Thursday pelted with stones and sachet water at the Eid prayer ground in Ilorin.

The worshippers were said to have thrown missiles in the direction of the senate president’s convoy when he arrived for the eid prayers for the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

Saraki who is currently standing trial on 13 count charge of corruption and false asset declaration at
the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) had arrived the prayer ground in company with some politicians.

Some of the aggrieved worshipers said they were protesting the non-payment of their salaries by the state government before the sallah celebration. They were angry that the state government did not pay salaries of workers and that made some civil servants unable to buy rams for the Eidr.

Other protesters accused the Senate president of embezzling billions of naira belonging to tax payers while he was governor in the state, adding that that made life unbearable for them and also retarded the development of the state.

The Kwara state police command had promised on Wednesday to deploy ‎2000 men and officers within Ilorin metropolis to avert what it described as intelligence information of planned stoning of some politicians in Ilorin.

Despite the warning by the police and the state government for people not to go to the prayer ground with water, the Eid prayer was disrupted after the Senate president was pelted with stones and pure water sachets as he arrived in his convoy of cars.
